I only have two black sunglasses, a Ralph Lauren similar to the photo below, and a Coach aviator-like sunglasses. However, I lost my RL in one of our trips. So I’ve been eyeing on Ray-ban Wayfarers for a long time. That’s how I ended up with Gucci.
Since my brother-in-law was visiting, we had to tour him around and that includes outlets (uh-oh)! It has become a Philippine tradition/custom to buy family and friends “Pasalubong” (gifts to take home from a trip from another country/state/province) whenever one goes away for some trip far from home. So we were also buying gifts for him to take home. My Dad asked me to buy him a Ray-ban coz his was really old. But then again, my mom is a Doctor of Optometry and she can get any glasses, sunglasses, or contact lenses at 60% off or even less (one of optometrists’ benefits). Thus, it’s actually cheaper for my mom to buy him there. And besides, it’s important to try the sunglasses on before buying so you know if it will fit your frame. So I ended up looking at Wayfarers for myself. About a month ago, I featured the wayfarers from Bluefly, costing $129-139. When we went to Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall, the Ray-ban Wayfarers were $130 at Sunglass Hut. When I went to Neiman Marcus Last Call, it was $60! Oh my! I have to buy now. But the color was two-toned… camel and black… which wasn’t bad at all. I liked it too. But then I saw the Gucci sunglasses in black which reminded me of my RL. It was more expensive at $105 but the original price was $330. So definitely, it’s a no-brainer… Gucci it is!
