At long last, bareMinerals came up with a Get Started kit for Lips, Eyes, and Cheeks! Thank goodness because that’s what I’ve been waiting for! You know they have tons of makeup products and I don’t have the time to learn them all. I’m pretty sure the same goes for most of you ladies… I mean, we have other things to think of… we have work to do or lessons to study, not to mention dealing with personal stuff. We have other work on the side, other hobbies to do, exercise, shop, cook, or whatever extra curricular activities we’re into. So having to learn which makeup to use, how to use bareMinerals, or what powder to use with what, is a pain. Thanks to Bare Escentuals, they’ve come up with bareMinerals Get Started Kit for lips, eyes, and cheeks! Yay! I can’t wait to get one soon! Oh and they’re only $49. Yay!

How To Renew Philippine Passport In The US

I know this is not a fashion-related post, but just to help my fellow Filipinos learn how to renew their Philippine passport while they are in the US, I have written a guide for you.

As some of you know, we just got back from vacation in California. One of the reasons we went there was to renew Hubby’s passport. Not mine because my passport is valid for the full extent of its validity period - that’s according to the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles, CA and also according to the US Consular Affairs. So I’m good until 2011. Thank Goodness because I want to skip on the passport fees and long wait. Oh by the way, surprisingly, it’s like you’re back home when you’re in the Philippine Embassy. We waited about 5 hours before our number was called. Although according to the people there, it was not usually the case. It just so happened there were so many Filipinos that day. Hmmm…

What do you need to know when renewing your Philippine Passport?

Starting June 2, 2008, Philippine Consulates in the US are already processing applications for the new Machine Readable Passports (MRP).
A Machine Readable Passport (MRP) is a passport where the personal details of the applicant is printed in such a way that it can be read by the naked eye and at the same time, it contains a “machine readable zone” containing the personal data of the passport holder that can be read by a machine or computer. This will make traveling faster, more convenient, and safer.
The new MRP is now maroon in color and consists of 44 pages. The MRP has the following security features: watermarked paper, colored UV fibers, UV reactive inks, special designs, microtexts, laser perforated numbers, ultrathin laminates, letter screen, invisible personal information, and holograms.
For now, only the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila prints the Machine Readable Passports (MRP). This means that when you apply for the new Philippine Passport while in the US, the Philippine consulate will have to mail it to DFA, Manila then it will be sent back to the US then released to you. The process will take SIX (6) weeks.
All applicants MUST APPEAR PERSONALLY at the Consular Office. You cannot mail your application because you need to personally affix your thumb mark and sign the form at the Consulate’s Office.
You need to pay $50 per passport ($60 for more pages).
If you are holding the old green passport and it has not yet expired, you need not worry because according to Philippine Consulates in the US, DFA, and US Bureau Consular Affairs, “the green passport will still be honored as a bonafide travel document issued by the Government of the Philippines until it expires, even after the roll out of the new Machine Readable Passports.”

What to bring?

Your old passport with your valid visa.
Photocopy of the first page, last page, visa stamps, and US point of entry stamp page of your passport. (There is a photocopying machine on site).
Passport photo: royal blue background, 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm, 8 mm space between the top of the photo and your head, and must be taken within the last 6 months. (There is usually a photo service near the consulate).
$50 for the passport plus shipping fees (we paid $6) if you want the passport to be mailed to your home directly.

After a long vacation in California, Fashion Juice is back! It feels good to be home… not that I didn’t have fun or anything because I sure did. But it feels great to be home! I love Texas. No offense to other states, but Hubby and I really enjoy it here in Texas - it has a little bit of everything! It’s peaceful here but it doesn’t lack the nightlife, entertainment, dining, and shopping areas too! Indeed, it has a little bit of everything! No, let me change that - it has a lot of everything. “Everything is big in Texas” - that’s what they say here. When other states started to go on recession, Texas was the booming state. When the housing market started to slump in other states, Texas homes were able to maintain its price range. Texas is so big so it’s not that jam-packed like other states. Still, it is home to the biggest companies in the US, not to mention it houses oil refineries in the country too. Plus, it’s almost complete when it comes to the shopping labels or brands. The only two labels I could think of that aren’t here are Balenciaga and H&M. When it comes to dining, our city alone is full of choices! We haven’t even tried out everything here. Yet, there are more options to try in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston to name a few. Dallas is like LA (West Coast) and NY (East Coast) of the Mid-US! So we are pretty satisfied with where we are right now. So to anyone curious of what to expect from Texas, why don’t you try visiting our home state some time? Travel to Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, or Austin among others and you’ll see what we Texans are proud of. Hehe

At long last! This is my last post of the top 5 of 2008 series. Why? Because today is the day I arrive back home (or perhaps I have gotten back last night). Nevertheless, this is the last scheduled post I’m writing for my LA trip. As mentioned in previous posts, I was away for a 2-week long Holiday vacation so I wrote all my posts before I left for LA (and this is the last post I wrote 3 weeks ago). Whew! So I’m guessing that you might be fed up with the type of posts I’ve been publishing for the past few days. Don’t worry because by tomorrow, I’ll be dishing about L.A. stuff. The top 5 series and Christmas gift guides are over and done. So since this is may last top 5 of 2008 post, I hope you’ll bear with me with this last one. Click click click!

#5 Designer Bags and Clutch

Of course, our number one accessory will always be bags. I mean, it’s where all our essentials are kept - the wallet, the make up, the mobile phone, and so much more. Nevertheless, I didn’t place it in number 1 because it’s already a given. In fact, you might be wondering why it’s even on my list of top 5 accessories of 2008. The thing is, it was in 2008 that we’ve seen more women wearing designer handbags. Isn’t it ironic, that when the economy is failing, it was when we’re starting to see more women buying designer handbags like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel among others? Well perhaps it’s because of the many mark downs and sales we’ve seen this 2008 because of the state we’re in. However, that’s still not logical. People are trying to save every penny and yet ladies continue to buy designer bags! Hmmm… I don’t know how this happened, but that is the reality of it! Ladies of this our generation have become more picky when it comes to bags… they’ve become more conscious about the quality, craftsmanship, and brand among other things. Count me in (haha). On the other hand, we’ve also seen the rise of the clutch bags. Since Spring of 2008, clutches have become a nice companion to cocktails, events, parties, and dinners. It also perfectly matches the maxi dresses of the Spring and Summer season. After all, the clutches released last year have become oversized - allowing one to carry a lot but still being able to say it’s a clutch.

#4 Belts

Belts have always been a fashionable accessory. But this year, we’ve seen it everywhere! We see it on tops, on jackets, on skirts, on pants, on shirts, on dresses, on cardigans… everywhere and I mean everywhere! It instantly completes a plain look! Wearing just a monotone dress? Add a skinny or wide belt and you’re look is transformed from blah to wow!

#3 Scarf

Scarf has become a staple fashion accessory for fashionistas like us. But this year, we’ve seen them more - be it during spring, summer, fall, or winter! They have been the Fashionista’s best friend to dull and plain moments and oh, cold ones too :)!

#2 Colored and Printed Tights

I’m sure you’ve seen enough of tights - from leather like leggings, to glossy liquid leggings, to printed flowers, tie-dye tights, plaid and argyle designs on legs, and so much more… 2008 has become the year of the leggings and tights. Even Lindsay Lohan’s leggings were sold out!

#1 Headbands

Thanks to Gossip Girl, especially Miss Blair Waldorf, we have seen the world transform into a headband craze - from headbands with bows and ribbons, to flowers and feathers (inspired by Carrie of Sex and the City), we’ve seen ladies wearing such fashions for months. Of course, headband wasn’t just the one getting all the flower decor. There’s also the scrunchies or pony tails getting much flower-attention.

This list is too broad but let’s just limit it to the most popular trends we’ve seen this year. While I might have missed a thing or two, I’m hoping I was able to include here all the wide-spread trends we’ve seen especially in celebrities. After all, you’re sure it’s a hot trend if you see one in Hollywood. This list covers shoes, labels, clothing, or even accessories and beauty products… So in case I missed something, just feel free to leave a comment and add something you think should have made it to Fashion Juice’s Top 5 Trends of 2008!

#5 Wide-leg pants and High-waisted bottoms

I also wanted to add skinny jeans here, but we all know skinny jeans or pants have been popular since 2005/2006 up until today. It never left, thus, I won’t be adding skinny jeans or pants here in this list. Instead, wide-leg pants and high-waisted bottoms, be it skirt, shorts, or pants, should make it to the top 5 trends of 2008. In 2008, wide-leg pants were re-born, and so were high-waisted stuff. Designers all have their versions of wide leg or high-waisted stuff in their collections. Thus, they deserve a spot in here.

#4 Maxi Dresses

If you have been a follower of the Fashion Juice website, you’ll know how Fashion Juice got obsessed with maxi dresses last spring and summer. Celebrities loved wearing them going around L.A.. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy such a flowing, comfy dress… something you can just get into and you’re done. No long hours of thinking what to pair with because it’s just one piece! Just wear your sandals and grab your bag and you’re okay! Great for the beach, for errands, for shopping, for afternoon cocktails, and so on…

#3 Gladiator Shoes and Tory Burch flats (sandals or ballet flats)

Of course, what better shoe to match the maxi dress than gladiator shoes? Of course, others preferred the flat thong sandals from Tory Burch or the ballet flats (Reva flats) that she has made popular. Wear them with short dresses, pants, shorts, skirts, or what have you’s!

#2 EDGY LOOK - Blazers, Motorcycle Jackets, Vests, Liquid Leggings, Leather

Edgy looks were so hot in 2008. Thus, the perfect accessory to an edgy look? Black boyfriend blazers, piped blazers, motorcycle jackets, and vests make one look masculine-ish. Add to that liquid or rubber leggings or leather stuff like skirts, pants, and jackets, and you complete the edgy or fierce look.

#1 Chanel Flap Bags

This has to be Fashion Juice’s number 1 - without a doubt. I know I’m biased because of my love for Chanel bags. But, come on, look at the bags Hollywood celebrities are holding? Most of them carry chanel all the time. Hehe. Just watching Gossip Girl, The Hills, Red Carpet Events, 90210, or just watching Fashion news, you’ll notice that you’ll find Chanel bag almost everywhere! Thus, it has become one of the most coveted bags of 2008! I know Chanel has been here for years, but I have to say 2008 has become the year of the Chanel Flap Bag Fever!

More than three times, I was close to getting one of these totes. But since I have other priorities in mind (like Chanel or Louis Vuitton, haha), then I chose to hold off that thought for now. #2 Tory Burch Totes

These totes from Tory Burch are what I like the most! I was also close to getting one several times. But I don’t want to settle for just any Tory Burch. But since it’s just a few hundred bucks more than the shopping totes from Gucci, Louis Vuitton, or Fendi among others, I’d have to make this one of my last bags to get. (haha).

#1 Green Bags

One of the most popular totes in the world in 2008 (well atleast, that’s what I think :)) are the eco-friendly totes that we so popularly call the “green bags”. No, they don’t have to be necessarily green but they will surely help our planet be one! Walmart has them… Target has them… even Macy’s, Nordstrom, Zara, Victoria’s Secret, Juicy Couture, SM Shoemart (Philippines), Ikea, and many many others have them! So if you haven’t gotten yourself a green bag for shopping, get one now. It will save a couple of trees! Just remember to fold ‘em and bring ‘em inside your handbag when you go shopping! Otherwise, it just defeats the purpose of getting one.

Hello everyone! I had a great start this 2009… and of course, I was so happy with my outfit too. This was supposed to be my outfit last Christmas, on my birthday, but I decided to go with the traditional “red” for birthday celebrants. So anyway, just to share, here’s Fashion Juice’s New year outfit for 2009…

(I know I need to go on a diet soon, haha!) The top and skirt were the ones I bought from Forever21 last Thanksgiving. They weren’t on sale but they were pretty affordable. Both items were below $20! Imagine that! The tights were from Walmart - which I actually regret buying because it’s even cheaper to buy tights at H&M than from Walmart. This goes to show you just have to look! My booties… you know where they’re from if you follow my blog. They were on sale at Nine West. Got them at Galleria Dallas for less than $70!

Today, I’m going to feature my top 5 shoes and shoe labels for the past year, 2008. I’m pretty sure that you already know my top 1 if you have been following this website for quite some time. But anyway, click on continue reading to read Fashion Juice’s top 5 shoes and/or shoe labels of 2008.

#5 Booties, Shooties, Sandal Booties

What can I say? These booties, shooties, and sandal booties have graced Hollywood from Spring to Winter! During the warmer months of the year, we’ve seen celebrities donning sandals looking like boots - or boots looking like sandals! As fall 2008 arrived, we’ve seen the sandal booties transform to booties slash sling backs or booties with peep toes and all. We’ve seen the boots transform into a shoe or vice versa. Thus, I have to add this to my Top 5 list!

#4 Tory Burch

No questions asked, Tory Burch should be in this list because of so many of her creations. For one, her Reva Ballerina flats have become one of the most phenomenal ballet flats this year. She’s got all the juicy colors and they were all loved by women. Who wouldn’t want those round hardware with that signature “T” logo in it? But if you’re not a closed shoes kinda girl, Tory Burch also produced super cute sandals - flats, mid-heels, high heels… name it, she got it. Oh, and of course, the Tory Burch tall boots with the coveted “T” logo? You can’t miss that one too!

#3 Manolo Blahnik

Do I even have to explain myself why Manolo Blahnik should be here? Manolo’s were once the most coveted shoe label, thanks to Carrie of Sex and The City TV show! Now that Sex and the City movie was released in 2008, Manolo Blahnik was once again in the spotlight (not that we ever forgot the label). The SATC movie featured yet another gorgeous blue pumps from the high end shoe label. This is my second dream shoe label!

#2 The Gladiators

This one doesn’t have a label because almost every label did this design - the gladiators! There were flats, and then they grew heels, and they grew even more heels, and so on. There were so many versions of gladiators that were produced too. Thus, 2008 was really the year of the gladiators (in terms of shoes). I had my share of gladiators and semi-gladiators last 2008 and I’m happy that they are still around even if a year has passed.

#1 The Red Soled Shoe - Christian Louboutin High Heels

One of the most common shoes you’ll see on the red carpet for the year 2008 (and counting) are those with the signature red soles, designed by none other than Christian Louboutin! Tons of celebrities are seen wearing them all the time. This is my ultimate dream shoes and I’m hoping I can buy one this year!

Happy New Year to all my dear Fashion Juice readers. Today is another year so I have to make this Top 5 List a special one! This one is not just the Top 5 Designer bags of 2008, but the Top 5 Bags of all time! I was thinking of just going for Top 5 Bags for the year. However, these 5 have come to be the “IT” bags and Classic bags that will always be in trend. I mean, they just have to be on the top list everytime. While there are other bags that are just as gorgeous or perhaps way more gorgeous, these bags are just like your Top 5 bags to own before you die. So if you want to find out, click, click, click…

#5 The Medium Veneta from Bottega Veneta

My number 5 was a pretty hard decision. My options were Gucci, Prada, and Fendi. However, I’ve heard some quality issues with Fendi. Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop me from considering it for my number 5. But it was the first label to be out of the choices. My next option was a Gucci. While so many people have loved Gucci for ages, I was considering the best of the best bags here, which means the price has to be considered as well. While there are numerous Gucci bags that cost more than $1,000, I feel that their classic bags cannot make it to this list. But, don’t get mad at me Gucci owners and lovers - because I love Gucci too and I have already selected my first Gucci for next year or so… Next option was the Prada bag. Now this is tough. Prada is a classic bag to own. I actually wanted it to be my Top 5 however, which Prada bag exactly? I know the black Prada bags are classics, especially their black nylon bags. However, which one? There isn’t a specific Prada bag that comes to mind when considering a classic. Thus, it has got to be this Medium Veneta from Bottega Veneta. “It has been said” that this bag is the “stepping stone bag” to my Top 1 bag… And besides, when I’ve surveyed for the best craftsmanship and quality bags… this always topped Gucci, Prada, and Fendi. Oh goodness! I just remembered after completing this post, I forgot about Goyard! How could I ever forget Goyard? This is my bad. But nevertheless, if I would add it to this list, it could be my number 5. I’m still not sure about the fifth spot, but it’s gonna be either of the labels such as Gucci, Prada, Goyard, or Bottega Veneta. Haha

#4 The Motorcycle City Bag from Balenciaga

Now, this is without a doubt one of the bags that you should own if you are a true bag collector. This is the bag of all the IT bags. You’re not a true bag hag if you don’t own the City Bag/Giant City Bag from Balenciaga. There are tons of colors to choose from, but the most popular ones that always go out of stock are the pinks, reds, whites, creams, and violets. Just check out one of the most coveted colors, the Sahara.

#3 The Monogram Speedy Bag from Louis Vuitton

Without a doubt, even if this bag is the cheapest among all my Top 5 bags, this certainly tops the two other bags previously. Why? Because it is a Louis Vuitton icon! Louis Vuitton is among the most highly trusted brand when it comes to bags and luggages. It actually started producing luggages until they made their Keep-All’s and Carry-All’s into a smaller version - which is now what we call the Speedy Bag! The Speedy bag comes in 3 sizes - the Size 25 - the smallest, Size 30 - the medium that I bought and most popular size as well, Size 35 - which is the first one that I got, and the Size 40 - which looks like a mini-luggage already.

#2 The 2.55 Flap Bag from Chanel

2.55 comes from the date February 1955. It was when the 2.55 flap bag was first launched. Gabrielle Chanel, who is also popularly called “Coco” and “Mademoiselle”, has greatly contributed in the fashion industry and she is the brains behind the popular shoulder/evening bag. She always lost her handbags not because she’s forgetful but because she was so busy. She admired a man’s military satchel and took inspiration from it. In 1929, she combined leather and brass to create a strap that was supple and light which will leave her hands free. Thus, she never lost a handbag again. So in February 1955, she has released the “2.55″ bag which has seduced a lot of women until this day.

#1 The Birkin Bag from Hermes

This bag is without a doubt the Top 1 of all bags. It has the longest waiting list history of all accessories because they handcraft each Birkin bag and are able to produce only 5 a week (something like that, I’m not exaggerating). Yes, yours truly, Fashion Juice is still on vacation and I can’t wait to write all about it once I go back home. But I got all excited when I learned that Fashion Juice’s Google Page Rank went up to 3 (well, went back to 3 actually). Remember I ranted about my PR ranking going down from 3 to 2? I was probably just lucky the first time that my website got ranked, it got a high rating of 3. But as my sponsors grew and perhaps because my posts were all about shopping and links to labels and online stores, it went down to 2. Now, it’s back to 3! I am so happy! And what’s more? I’m getting my Google pay check this January. It really is a bright 2009 for Fashion Juice! Yay! Thanks to all my readers! Of course, I owe it all to you. So don’t worry!
